The book Where Have All the Apples Gone by Chris Smellie, with the bulk of the funding provided by the Trust, has won the Gourmand Awards–Best Title section.
Gourmand Awards–Best Title section A22
Notification of our book Where Have All The Apples Gone, being selected as one of six global finalists, arrived mid-October by email. It truly came out of left field and produced quite a thrill when it turned up. That thrill has now been magnified many times by being selected as the winner of section A22, best title.
I want to acknowledge and thank the administrators of the Awards who found the book and appreciated the depth of information in the book, too often it is seen as a picture page turner.
The connection between growers and producers of the food and the pleasure it provides for those consuming it; and that the issues raised are present in many parts of the world, were also both recognised by the Awards administrators.
Of the many people involved in the production of this book I would like to acknowledge the input of the editor, Ingrid Dubbelt, and the lay out artist Diana Curtis. Together they took my rough text and jumble of images and turned them into the professional finished product the book is. The New Zealand Fruitgrowers Charitable trust provided the bulk of funds needed and the Huapai/Kumeu Lions club are the marketers.
We are all very happy to be representing New Zealand at these Awards.
